KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 — ZUS Coffee today pledged unwavering support for a barista who was verbally assaulted and splashed with coffee by an irate customer, saying she remains part of the company.

In an update today regarding the incident, the firm said the wellbeing of its employee remains a top priority.

“Our Zurista is still part of ZUS Coffee and is taking paid time off to recover from this incident,” the statement said.

ZUS Coffee reiterated that a police report had been lodged to ensure the safety and privacy of its employee.

The company highlighted the challenges of working in retail and said the incident was learning from the situation to improve training and support systems across its outlets.

ZUS Coffee said that it does not tolerate aggressive behaviour toward staff or customers.

The company urged the public to respect the barista’s privacy and remove posts that reveal her identity.

It further appealed for responsible online discourse and warned against spreading false claims.

A viral clip of the incident showed a customer, reportedly a Chinese national, swearing and throwing coffee at the barista after being asked to leave.
