PETALING JAYA:

Zus Coffee has filed a police report after one of its baristas was verbally abused and splashed with coffee by a customer at an outlet.

The local coffee chain said the report was lodged to safeguard the barista and protect her privacy.

“Our barista is still part of Zus Coffee and is taking paid time off to recover from this incident. Her well-being continues to be our priority,” it said in a statement today.

The company also said it was reviewing its internal procedures to strengthen staff training and support systems.

“We recognise every customer comes with different expectations. We are learning from this opportunity and will continue to strengthen our training and support systems to build a culture that handles challenges with professionalism and empathy,” it said.

Zus Coffee also urged the public to refrain from spreading information that could identify those involved.

“This incident affects mental well-being. We kindly request that the online community remove posts revealing identities, as continued circulation can cause real and lasting harm,” it said.

A video showing a confrontation between a Zus Coffee barista and a foreign customer went viral earlier this week. The clip, however, did not show how the altercation began.
