KOTA KINABALU: Zara Qairina Mahathir’s personal belongings, including the clothes she was wearing when she was found, were handed to police today.

The family’s lawyer, Hamid Ismail said the items were handed over at around 2pm today at his office.

“There were other personal belongings of Zara that were handed over to the police.

“We also handed over the clothes and personal items she was wearing during the incident,” he said.

Lawyers Hamid and Shahlan Jufri had earlier said they would be handing over all of Zara’s clothing and personal belongings, including those worn during the incident, to the police.

The lawyers had also said the police had never collected or requested from their client all of Zara’s clothing and belongings for investigation purposes.

As such, the lawyers are of the view that the investigation paper submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers is incomplete, lacking in scope, and very limited in its investigation parameters.

The Form 1 student, who was found unconscious after allegedly falling from a hostel building, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE I) here at 11am on July 17.

The incident went viral on social media and sparked widespread public reaction after allegations of bullying were said to have occurred at the school.

On August 1, Zara’s family was reported to have requested an inquest to determine whether there were criminal elements involved in her death.

To date, there have been no further developments regarding the application.
