Zara Qairina inquest: Security guard tried to rouse teen, no response

KOTA KINABALU: The security guard on duty the night Zara Qairina Mahathir was found unconscious told the Coroner’s Court today that she had tried to rouse the teenager by calling her name and gently holding her cheeks, but received no response.

Linah Mansoding @ Jaliha, 65, who described the Form One student’s condition at the time, said Zara Qairina was breathing heavily, as if “snoring”.

The mother of four was being questioned by Shahlan Jufri, lawyer for Zara’s family, on the seventh day of the inquest into the teenager’s death before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan.

Shahlan: “When you called out to Zara, did she respond?”

Linah: “She appeared to be asleep and snoring… lying flat on her back. It was pitiful.”
