KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has served a show-cause notice upon activist Che Muna Din for a September 4 Facebook post, deemed contemptuous of the court, concerning the ongoing inquest into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.

In a statement today, the AGC said the notice was served upon the activist, who is also known as Mona Din, on September 10, pursuant to Rule 52, Order 2B of the Rules of Court 2012.

“The service of this show-cause notice constitutes a requisite procedural step for the initiation of committal proceedings for contempt of court.

“Upon review, the AGC determined that the post uploaded by Che Muna Din, which, inter alia, challenged the evidence of expert witness Dr Jessie Hiu, a Forensic Pathologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, had the potential to influence public opinion and to interfere with the due process of the ongoing inquest proceedings,” stated the AGC.

Furthermore, the AGC also advised that criminal charges against several other individuals, who have made statements concerning Zara Qairina with the potential to interfere with the inquest proceedings, are to be imminently preferred.

“The AGC views with the utmost seriousness any action which may subvert the course of justice and will not hesitate to take firm legal action against any party found to have done so.

“Accordingly, the AGC advises members of the public to refrain from publishing, commenting upon, or disseminating any material which may cause confusion or interfere with ongoing court proceedings,” the statement concluded. — Bernama
