KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Over 80,000 out of 90,779 housing loan approvals under the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme (SJKP) have gone to Malaysians aged 40 and below since 2008, according to Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.
She said borrowers aged 18 to 25 accounted for over 15,000 approvals, followed by 26 to 30 years old with more than 31,000, 31 to 35 with 22,356, and 36 to 40 with 12,799.
“Since its launch in 2008, SJKP has approved financing for 90,779 borrowers, totalling RM21.5 billion.
“Of these, nearly 90 per cent, or 89.56 per cent, are young Malaysians aged 40 and below,” she told Dewan Rakyat today.
She was responding to Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof, who asked whether KPKT has any initiatives to help gig economy workers purchase homes.
Citing the recent 2026 Budget tabling by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, she said the latest Budget includes an additional RM20 billion allocation for the SJKP, on top of a previous RM20 billion injection from the Madani government.
She said the Budget also provides extra guarantees for contract appointments of public servants, offering further support for those eligible.
“This also includes an additional RM1 billion in guarantees for contract-based civil servants, which is certainly good news,” she said.
Aiman also said the government has provided financing guarantees of up to RM500,000 for the purchase of a first home, whether it is a new property, an existing unit, or a repossessed property.
