New wardens, who are former military or police officers, will begin work at the MRSM in Besut and Balik Pulau to curb bullying and other disciplinary cases.
PETALING JAYA:

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has met with the first group of full-time Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) wardens who will start duty at the Besut and Balik Pulau colleges next Monday.

Asyraf said this is Mara’s latest initiative to curb bullying and other disciplinary cases, and ensure safe learning environments for MRSM students.

“The wardens chosen have gone through a series of screenings, including comprehensive interview sessions, to ensure these retirees from uniformed bodies truly meet all of Mara’s criteria,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He said that in his briefing to the wardens, he reminded them that MRSM boarding schools are the students’ second homes, where they learn about etiquette in community life, time management, duty, and responsibility.

“As such, the wardens are not just keepers of daily routine, but educators of character – (the students’) second parents – who ensure safety is kept, discipline is built and love inculcated.

“Though there will be no tolerance for wrongdoing, their approach will be educational, rehabilitative and fair,” he said.

On July 20, Asyraf said Mara had appointed retired military and police officers as hostel wardens for two MRSMs under a pilot initiative starting this month.

He said no more than 10 male and female wardens have been appointed for each college.
