YTL Communications has officially launched 5G Advanced for the Yes 5G network. According to the telco, they are the first to commercially roll out 5G Advanced in Malaysia and it is set for nationwide completion by the end of 2025.
With 5G Advanced, the Yes 5G network not only provides improved performance but also deeper coverage and new features that unlocks new possibilities.
During the Future First Tech-Talk event, YTL Communications CEO Wing K Lee revealed that Yes 5G has already activated 5G Standalone (5G SA) nationwide in Q3 2025.
Yes 5G turns on 5G SA and 5G Advanced

With 5G SA, customers can enjoy true 5G experience that doesn’t rely on 4G network as an anchor. This is made possible with the deployment of 5G Core Network connected to Digital National Berhad’s (DNB) radio network deployed by Ericsson. All 5G SA sites are fiberised to ensure the best speeds, high throughput and ultra-low latency.
With 5G SA, Yes 5G is able to deliver both data and voice (VoNR) while delivering the best 5G experience.
Yes 5G is world’s 9th 5G Advanced Network

Worldwide, there are 354 5G networks and 80% of them are still running on 5G NSA (Non-Standalone). Only 20% of these networks have activated 5G SA and Yes 5G is one of them.
When it comes to 5G Advanced, there were only 8 networks globally with the technology. With Yes 5G’s launch, Malaysia is now the 9th country to have a commercially available 5G Advanced network that’s accessible to customers.

Wing explained that Yes 5G is utilising both 3.5GHz and 700MHz bands allocated for 5G service in Malaysia. While 3.5GHz provides high bandwidth, it is utilising the 700MHz frequency with 5G SA to ensure greater 5G coverage.
Combined with 5G Advanced, Yes 5G customers can expect 30% improved downlink performance, 30% improved uplink performance and 100% lower latency. Another advantage is improved 5G coverage for outdoor as well as stronger and deeper indoor penetration.
Yes 5G Advanced Network Slicing

One of the key features of 5G Advanced is Network Slicing which is now activated on the Yes 5G network. With the feature, Yes 5G can prioritise bandwidth and traffic for specific use cases such as AI and Video Live Streaming. You can think of it as a VIP priority lane with Quality-of-Service prioritisation that works on the Yes 5G network.
Wing shared that on-demand Network Slicing for customers is in the works and it will be introduced soon.

While 5G SA is now enabled nationwide, 5G Advanced is currently being rolled out in stages on the Yes 5G network. The telco aims to complete its 5G Advanced rollout in the Klang Valley by the end of October and it will be available nationwide by December 2025.
Existing Yes 5G customers on Postpaid and 5G Broadband can experience 5G Advanced starting today at no extra cost and it is supported on selected devices. This includes smartphones models from Nothing, Samsung, ZTE, Xiaomi, Honor, Vivo, Oppo, Realme and Infinix.
More 5G Advanced devices will be supported soon and some may require software updates.

Commenting on the launch, Wing said, “This is more than a network upgrade; it’s a game-changer. With 5G Advanced, Malaysians can enjoy broader and deeper 5G coverage nationwide and a high-performance wireless network the country has not seen before. It’s the foundation for an uncapped, inclusive and AI-ready society that Malaysians deserve.”
