KUALA LUMPUR: Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin’s refusal to apologise for a post concerning former Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been criticised as rude towards her partners in the unity government.
Selangor Umno Youth chief Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin said the DAP national publicity secretary’s attitude will be raised at higher levels, including the upcoming Selangor Umno liaison meeting.
“She did not respond to the memorandum and objections we submitted.
“This shows her obstinacy as a DAP leader.
“We will request the state Umno liaison body to convey the grassroots’ objections, disappointment, and anger to the Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership, namely the menteri besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari),” he told Berita Harian today.
Mohd Imran said Selangor Umno youth will review and reassess its cooperation with DAP, particularly at the state level, in light of Yeo’s actions and statements.
“So far, we have responded to statements from Dapsy Selangor and remain open to dialogue or exchanging views with them seriously.
“However, the main responsibility lies with the Selangor DAP leadership, as Yeo is a Selangor MP and holds a party position.
“I also credit the Selangor DAP leadership for not making disrespectful statements like her,” he added.
Mohd Imran said a firm position will be taken, but they are still awaiting an official explanation from DAP’s top leadership.
“As partners in the Madani government, we have served for three years.
“But why, with 24 months remaining, does DAP seem to undermine the stability of the unity government by making disrespectful statements towards Umno, even though they know Umno is part of the coalition?” he added.
Yesterday, Puchong Umno announced that it had severed all ties with its Pakatan Harapan (PH) counterpart following the issue.
Its secretary Mohamad Yusof Mohamed Yassin said the decision followed Yeo’s failure to apologise within the 24-hour deadline, which ended on Dec 24.
This was in response to her post read: “Another reason to celebrate this year end,” shared alongside a news portal link titled “No house arrest for Najib”.
Yeo received criticism from other Barisan Nasional leaders, who said her remarks were highly inappropriate and rude.
