KUALA LUMPUR: A Yemeni teenager was killed and three other foreign youths injured when their car skidded and plunged into a four-metre-deep ravine along the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Highway early today.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received an emergency call at 4.47am regarding the accident at Km27.4 of the highway, heading towards Karak.
“A team from the Selayang Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, located about 17 kilometres from the station, and arrived at 5.03am.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found a car that had veered off the road and plunged into a ravine,” he said when contacted today.
He said four male victims were trapped inside the vehicle, and firefighters carried out extrication operations to free them.
“All four victims were successfully removed from the wreckage.
“One of them, an 18-year-old Yemeni, was confirmed dead at the scene,” he said.
The other three victims sustained various injuries and were handed over to medical personnel for treatment.
They were identified as a 19-year-old Yemeni, who suffered minor injuries; a 20-year-old Yemeni, who sustained a fractured right arm; and an 18-year-old Iraqi, who suffered head and arm injuries.
A total of eight firefighters were involved in the operation, using one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
Mukhlis said the rescue operation was brought under control at 6.08am, while investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
