PETALING JAYA:

The works ministry only receives about 30% of the RM4 billion it requires annually to maintain federal roads across the country, says its minister Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In a Berita Harian report, Nanta said the shortfall posed challenges in ensuring that road conditions are at an optimal level nationwide.

“Ideally, this gap should be narrowed because we really need more funds for this purpose,” he said.

He stressed that the ministry continuously requests additional funding to close this gap as proper road maintenance is critical for road safety.

He added that the RM4 billion was also used to rebuild ageing road infrastructure.

His ministry was allocated RM10.35 billion in Budget 2025, a 9% increase from 2024, when it was allocated RM9.51 billion.
