IPOH: The woman who dashed towards the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the state-level National Day celebration has been referred to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta (HBUK) for further observation.
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the remand order for the 41-year-old woman ends today.
“In relation to this, she has been referred to HBUK in accordance with the provisions of the Mental Health Act 2001 (Act 615).
“The investigation into this case has been completed, and the investigation papers have been referred to the Perak Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office.
“They will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chambers in Putrajaya tomorrow for further instructions and a decision,” he added.
He said any further developments regarding the outcome of the case would be announced periodically.
“We advise the public not to make inaccurate speculations, as this may interfere with the investigation process and disrupt public order,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code for attempted grievous hurt, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment and may also include a fine upon conviction.
It was reported that the woman, who has prior drug-related offences, also has a history of psychiatric treatment.
The woman entered from the side of the stage and approached Sultan Nazrin before she was apprehended by security personnel.
Earlier, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the incident should serve as a wake-up call to tighten security protocols for official events.
Saarani said that while the state government accepts responsibility if there were any loopholes in the programme’s security arrangements, the matter should not be seen as finger-pointing, but as a lesson to strengthen existing measures.
