MERSING: A woman was killed and seven others, including a 7-year-old girl, were injured in an accident involving two vehicles on Jalan Jemaluang-Mersing, near Jemaluang Dairy Valley, this afternoon.
Mersing Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Rushdan Md Yusuf said the victim, Aishah Hasan, 48, was confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.
He said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 2.36pm, before a Fire and Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit with eight personnel were dispatched to the location.
“On arrival of the operations response team at the scene, it was confirmed that an accident had occurred involving a Toyota Vios, which collided with a Honda BRV.
“One victim was trapped inside the Vios, and the team used specialised road rescue equipment to extricate the victim,” he said.
He said that the injured victims were taken to Mersing hospital, while the deceased’s body was handed over to the police for further action before the operation concluded at 3.24pm.
Mersing police chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the incident.
