KOTA BARU: A woman in her 40s and a baby girl, approximately nine months old, lost their lives while five others sustained injuries in a collision involving an MPV and a lorry on the East-West Expressway near the Perak-Jeli border on Saturday (Aug 30).
Jeli Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Azhar Elmi Mustofar, reported that the accident involved seven victims, with two confirmed dead at the scene.
He said that his team received an emergency call about the incident at 3.23pm through the MERS999 system, prompting the dispatch of personnel to the site.
“The inspection confirmed that a collision had occurred between an MPV and a lorry, involving seven victims. Two victims, a woman in her 40s and a baby girl aged between eight and nine months old, were found dead at the scene,” he told Bernama.
Azhar Elmi said the other five victims were injured and have been sent to Jeli Hospital for further treatment.
The rescue operation commenced at 3.58pm and was successfully completed by 4.17pm.
“The fire and rescue team extricated the trapped victims before handing them over to the police and the Health Ministry for further action,” he added, noting that the identities of all victims are still under police investigation. – Bernama
