KUALA LUMPUR: A woman and her 3-year-old daughter were found dead in waters off Pulau Ketam, Klang, this morning.

Klang Selatan deputy police chief Superintendent Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the bodies were discovered about 7.30am near the island’s jetty.

He said a 56-year-old local man first spotted the child floating in the sea in front of the jetty.

“With the help of several members of the public, the complainant managed to bring the child ashore. Police and health clinic staff who arrived at the scene confirmed that the child had died,” he said in a statement.

Kamalariffin said an adult woman was later seen floating nearby and was also brought to the jetty, where she was confirmed dead.

“A search of the area led to the discovery of a bag containing documents belonging to both victims. They were identified as a 41-year-old local woman and her daughter,” he said.

He said an initial examination by the state police forensics unit found no injuries on either body, adding that the cause of the incident was still under investigation.

Both bodies were sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Kamalariffin said no criminal elements were detected so far, and police have opened a sudden death report for further investigation.

Those with information are urged to contact the nearest police station or the Klang Selatan police headquarters at 03-33762222.
