KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim today said Malaysia is ready to deploy peacekeeping troops to Gaza if requested by the United Nations, the Arab League or the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

He said Malaysia has never declined such calls in the past and remains committed to contributing to international efforts to secure lasting peace in the war-torn enclave.

“On the proposal for peacekeeping forces, that will be discussed by the Arab League, the OIC, and once the United Nations Security Council agrees, Malaysia is ready if requested or required,” he told the Dewan Rakyat during Prime Minister’s Question Time.

“In the past, we have never refused such requests. Whenever peacekeeping forces are needed, we send them. I agree that a peacekeeping mission is among the best guarantees to ensure security in Gaza,” he said in response to Kubang Kerian MP Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim raised concerns that there were no assurances Israel would not resume attacks on Gaza and urged Malaysia to take a proactive role in supporting reconstruction and humanitarian efforts there.

On Gaza’s rebuilding efforts, said Malaysia, as co-chair with Japan in an East Asia humanitarian platform, will prioritise rebuilding essential infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and mosques destroyed by the conflict.

“We will ensure our focus is on rebuilding schools, hospitals, and mosques that are needed. We have also received information that has agreed to send greater aid to Gaza as part of the recovery efforts,” he said.
