
Malaysia’s World No 5 men’s doubles shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun were forced to bring out their best by their Indonesian rivals before storming into the semi-finals of the Hylo Open.
In a quarter-final match that saw both pairs fighting hard for every point, Wei Chong-Kai Wun kept their nerves to win 26-24, 21-19 in a match that lasted 43 minutes in Saarbrucken, Germany.
The Malaysians, who are seeking their third title this year, will face the winners of the another quarter-final match between Malaysian duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Indonesia’s Gutama Sabar Karyaman-Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.
Today’s encounter was the first between the two pairs. Fajar-Shohibul have been finalists at the last three consecutive World Tour championships but lost all of them.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun, who had qualified for two finals this year, are gunning for their third title this year after winning the Indonesian and Malaysian Masters titles.
In the women’s doubles, both the Malaysian pairs were knocked out in the quarter-finals.
Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing lost to Turkish pair Bengisu Ercetin-Nazlican Inci in straight games while Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting lost to Hong Kong duo Hong Kong’s Hsu Yin Hui-Lin Jhih Yun also in two games.
