KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan has lodged a police report over several viral Facebook posts containing fabricated WhatsApp screenshots allegedly showing the party plotting to exploit the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir for political gain.

Warisan information chief Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman (pic) said the posts falsely claimed the screenshots came from a WhatsApp group called “ Warisan”, which he stressed does not exist.

“We strongly deny these baseless claims. The WhatsApp group never existed, and the screenshots were manipulated to attack me and Parti Warisan,” he said after lodging the report at the Karamunsing police station on Sept 2.

Azis said the viral posts were part of a malicious attempt to tarnish the party’s image and divert public anger over Zara’s case away from the authorities and towards Warisan.

He stressed that Warisan has never exploited Zara’s death for political purposes and reiterated the party’s consistent stance in supporting a transparent and fair investigation.

“What matters is ensuring a thorough, transparent, and fair investigation for Zara’s family, her school, and all parties involved,” he said.

Warisan is also looking to file a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to trace those behind the fake screenshots and viral posts. Azis urged authorities to act swiftly and take firm action against those responsible.

He also reminded the public to be cautious and verify information before sharing anything online.

“Don’t fall for fake accounts or fabricated content. Always check before sharing, especially in sensitive cases like this,” he said.
