Warisan insists it will contest the next Sabah state election on its own, after Perikatan Nasional said it is open to a tie-up with the party at the polls.
Warisan said today it had repeatedly made its stand clear that it will contest the upcoming election independently under its own logo, a decision which it has consistently communicated.
“There are no negotiations, discussions or arrangements with PN, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah or any other political coalition regarding electoral cooperation,” said Warisan information chief Azis Jamman in a statement.
“At a time when political uncertainty and opportunism are common, Warisan chooses to remain consistent, principled, and transparent.
“Our direction is clear … to contest solo and to provide Sabahans with a government that prioritises their welfare over political expediency.”
Warisan said its only pact is with Sabahans, and it is focused on addressing the challenges faced by the people, such as the rising cost of living, lack of infrastructure, unreliable electricity and water supply, limited job opportunities, and the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Earlier today, PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition will not go solo as parties contesting on their own are no longer relevant.
“Cooperation with Warisan remains a possibility because in politics, anything can happen, especially since the date for the state assembly’s dissolution has not been announced,” he said.
