Wan Rosdy: Sungai Kenau flood mitigation project to be ready next November

KUANTAN: The Sungai Kenau Flood Mitigation project in Sungai Lembing here is expected to be completed on Nov 27 next year, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

He added that, so far, the project has achieved 16.84 per cent progress compared to the scheduled 16.33 per cent, thereby progressing ahead of schedule by four days.

“The design study and related works for the project began on Nov 28, 2023,” he said when replying to a question from Mohamad Ayub Mat Ashri (PN-Sungai Lembing) regarding the status of the flood mitigation project at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.

Wan Rosdy added that river deepening, dredging and pumping works had been carried out to allow smooth water flow and reduce the risk of flood.

“The objective is for the water to flow swiftly and prevent any floods from occurring. River maintenance work has also been carried out, in addition to inspections being carried out on the river banks,” he said.

He said this in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Johari Hussain (-Tioman), who wanted to know the short-term measures taken by the state government before the flood mitigation project is fully completed. — BERNAMA
