[UPDATED] Fire breaks out at shoplots in KL's Pantai Dalam

KUALA LUMPUR: A fire broke out at a row of shoplots in Pantai Dalam near Apartment Pantai Indah with firefighting efforts still ongoing as of 12.30am.

Thick black smoke and flames can be seen billowing from the premises.

As of press time firefighters are still working to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

A resident of the nwarby apartments who only wanted to be identified as Nazri, 38, said that he noticed the blaze about 10.45pm.

“I heard a commotion, I was making powdered milk for my daughter.

“People were knocking on doors alerting others of the fire,” he said when met at the scene.

Nazri, his wife and daughter sought refuge at the nearby highway overpass away from the fire.

A City Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesman confirmed the incident.

“We received a distress call at 11.11pm and deployed firefighters immediately from the Pantai station with backup from the Hang Tuah and Hartamas stations.

“The fire had engulfed housing units and shop premises.

“Currently our team is still tackling the fire. However, there have been no reports of casualties so far.”
