JOHOR BARU: A pedestrian has been killed in a hit-and-run accident at KM14 along Jalan Johor Baru–Kota Tinggi here on Sunday morning (Aug 10).
Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police received a report on the fatal accident, involving the unidentified male pedestrian of unknown nationality who was found seriously injured at the scene.
“The victim, believed to be in his 50s, was confirmed dead at the location due to severe head injuries. The incident is believed to have happened at around 7.30am when the victim was attempting to cross the road.
“He was struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling from Kota Tinggi towards Johor Baru,” he said.
ACP Mohd Sohaimi added that the impact threw the victim onto the middle of the road, where he succumbed to his injuries.
He said the victim’s identity has yet to be confirmed, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
ACP Mohd Sohaimi urged witnesses or anyone with information about the victim or the accident to contact investigating officer Insp Kelly Lee Ya Yek at 014-6977122.
“Members of the public are advised to be patient, obey road rules and traffic regulations, and always remain cautious and alert while on the road,” he said.
