GEORGE TOWN: Police are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body at the Batu Gantung cemetery here last night.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said police received a call from the public about 7.30pm.
The caller told police about a body at the Hokkien cemetery along Jalan Batu Gantung.
“Initial investigations revealed that the deceased was found lying on his back at the scene. There were no criminal elements detected during the examination of the area,” he said in a statement today.
Rozak said a post-mortem conducted by the Forensic Department of Penang Hospital revealed that the cause of death could not be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition.
“The deceased is believed to be a 79-year-old man, who has been reported missing from a nursing home on Jalan Perak since Oct 13,” he added.
Police have classified the case as sudden death.
