KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was charged at the magistrate’s court today with the murder of his 62-year-old father last week.
Iznan Syahir Mohammad Tasnim, 25, was brought before magistrate M.S Arunjothy to face the charge as his seven-day remand expired today.
Dressed in a purple kurta top, Iznan, who appeared calm in the dock, was instructed to remove his face mask before the charge was read out to him by a court interpreter.
He nodded to indicate he understood the charge mounted against him.
No plea was recorded as murder cases are under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, Iznan is accused of murdering his father, Mohammad Tasnim Nurdin, at about 3.01am in an apartment unit in Bandar Seri Permaisuri, Cheras on Sept 13.
The charge is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal appeared for the prosecution.
On Sept 13, Cheras deputy police chief Superintendent Ridzuan Khalid had said that the victim was found lying on his back in the living room of his home with serious injuries to his face and head.
Initial investigations showed that the incident occurred due to alleged dissatisfaction over a family inheritance issue.
