Prime Minister Ibrahim today called for greater efforts to improve the youth’s understanding of history in order to foster patriotism and love for the country in the younger generation.

Acknowledging Malaysia’s path towards the era of digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI), said that knowledge of history was also crucial to ensure that Malaysian youth are on the right track in tackling the nation’s challenges.

He said there should be more efforts to attract the interest of the youth by explaining Malaysian history in a more interesting way.

“The challenge we face is developing a national narrative that can break through these challenges so that historical literacy can be fostered among the younger generation,” he said in launching the National Historians Council here today.

Anwar also said it was important for the next generation to be holistically educated in technology as well as aspects like history, language, culture, religion and values.

“Our AI will succeed if we understand our country’s values, morals and history. If we only copy others in AI without defending our identity and strengths, including our history, our AI will simply continue to push external views,” he said.
