Umno yet to receive resignation letter from Akmal


KUALA LUMPUR: has yet to receive any formal resignation letter from Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh amid speculation that he intends to step down from his party post.

secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party leadership would not rely on social media postings or unverified claims, adding that there has been no official notification or written confirmation on the matter.

“There is none. As the party’s secretary-general, we do not base our actions on what is said on social media or on circulating hearsay,” he said when asked whether Umno headquarters had received any information regarding Akmal’s alleged resignation.

This comes amid media reports claiming that Akmal had expressed his intention to resign not only as Umno Youth chief but also as the Merlimau assemblyman, according to sources close to the party.

The sources said Akmal had informed a group of Umno Youth leaders of his intention through a WhatsApp message yesterday while he was in Shanghai, .
