Umno veteran Megat Najmuddin dies at 81


KUALA LUMPUR: veteran Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas has died. He was 81.

A source close to the family confirmed his passing.

It is understood that he had been ill for some time, although the source did not specify the nature of the illness.

The former Kelana Jaya member of parliament was an Disciplinary Committee member and Subang permanent chairman.

Megat Najmuddin was the chairman of Asian Pac Holdings Bhd, SEG International Bhd, Green Venture Capital Sdn Bhd, Ulink Ascot Sdn Bhd, and the Malaysian Institute of Management.

He also served as president of the Federation of Public Listed Companies Bhd.

Previously, he held numerous key positions in both the public and private sectors, including non-executive independent of Petronas and chairman of Omesti Bhd, Tradewinds Corp Bhd, and MajuPerak Holdings Bhd.

He was a member of the National Economic Consultative Council 2 and the Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee of Bank Negara Malaysia, as well as the honorary patron of the Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance, where he served as president from 1998 to 2015.

He was appointed chairman of Sime Darby Plantation Bhd in 2020.
