KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has welcomed the Federal Court’s unanimous decision to expedite Datuk Seri Najib Razak‘s judicial review regarding a royal addendum that could allow him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision offers relief in ongoing efforts to seek justice for Najib, and that the party remains committed to using all available avenues to secure his defence.
“Umno expresses gratitude to Allah and welcomes the unanimous decision of the three Federal Court judges directing that Najib’s judicial review regarding the royal addendum be expedited for hearing at the High Court,” he said at a press conference last night.
The Federal Court dismissed the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ (A-GC) final appeal to block Najib’s judicial review over a royal addendum allowing him to be placed under house arrest.
The ruling clears the way for Najib to proceed with his challenge in the High Court to enforce the order.
The three-member bench, led by Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim, noted a concession by the A-GC that the addendum exists.
Other members of the bench were Federal Court judges Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof and Datuk Hanipah Farikullah.
