KUALA LUMPUR: Close ranks and “reflect on the memories made together” instead of choosing to leave, a Kelantan Umno delegate has told disgruntled party members.
Jeli Umno Youth information chief Wan Mahussin Wan Zain also likened the situation to children wanting to leave a home when new step-siblings come in, referencing Umno‘s political cooperation together with Pakatan Harapan in the unity government.
He further called on former Umno leaders to “return home and rebuild the house together”.
“Of course, it hurts to know that the bed we once slept on is being used by others, and we can no longer watch our preferred shows as the television remote must be shared.
“Should we pack up and leave then? Leaving only proves we are ungrateful for what has happened.
“To all who have already left, please recall the good times we had.
“Come home and let us strengthen our bonds and further safeguard race, religion and the country,” he said when debating the president’s speech at the Umno general assembly here on Saturday (Jan 17).
On Friday (Jan 16), Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party will open its doors to former leaders who were “born and raised under its roof”,
He said it was from this “house” (the party) that Independence was achieved, the Constitution was crafted, Islam was elevated as a pillar of the nation, and the Malay Rulers were upheld.
Ahmad Zahid added that a special committee will be established to receive the entry or re-entry of any party, whether individually or collectively (en bloc).
Separately, Wan Mahussin also urged Barisan Nasional component parties MCA, MIC and PBRS not to leave the party.
“We (Barisan) used to be a big family. To those still with us, let us all strengthen Barisan together,” he said.
Wan Mahussin also urged Kelantan voters to make a change at future state elections, highlighting the progress made in states led by Umno.
“Make sure Melaka, Johor, Pahang and Perak will continue being governed by Umno and Barisan Nasional,” he said.
