NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — U.S. stocks ended mixed on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 10.45 points, or 0.02 percent, to 44,922.27. The S&P 500 sank 37.78 points, or 0.59 percent, to 6,411.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 314.82 points, or 1.46 percent, to 21,314.95.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with real estate and consumer staples leading the gainers by adding 1.8 percent and 0.99 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and communication services led the laggards by losing 1.88 percent and 1.16 percent, respectively.
