NEW YORK, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — U.S. stocks ended lower on Monday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 349.27 points, or 0.77 percent, to 45,282.47. The S&P 500 sank 27.59 points, or 0.43 percent, to 6,439.32. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 47.243 points, or 0.22 percent, to 21,449.29.
Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with consumer staples and health leading the laggards by losing 1.62 percent and 1.44 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and energy led the gainers by adding 0.44 percent and 0.26 percent, respectively.
