NEW YORK, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.73 percent to 98.430 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1621 dollars from 1.1722 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound slipped to 1.3460 dollars from 1.3526 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.80 Japanese yen, higher than 146.87 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8060 Swiss francs from 0.8011 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3853 Canadian dollars from 1.3825 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.5916 Swedish kronor from 9.4971 Swedish kronor.
