NEW YORK, July 16 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.23 percent to 98.392 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1628 dollars from 1.1603 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3409 dollars from 1.3390 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.94 Japanese yen, down from 148.85 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.8018 Swiss francs from 0.8018 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.3702 Canadian dollars from 1.3716 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.7339 Swedish kronor from 9.7228 Swedish kronor.
