NEW YORK, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.59 percent to 97.765 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1719 dollars from 1.1644 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound added to 1.3509 dollars from 1.3426 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.36 Japanese yen, lower than 148.56 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.7982 Swiss francs from 0.8063 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3848 Canadian dollars from 1.3829 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.3851 Swedish kronor from 9.4732 Swedish kronor.
