U Mobile users may have recently noticed something different about their network connection. As we’ve also recently found out, the orange telco’s second 5G network (officially known as U Mobile ULTRA5G) has now expanded to more areas, including Setapak and Mid Valley. But it has now been revealed that its coverage actually stretches across much of the Klang Valley, Putrajaya, Pulau Pinang, and Labuan.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed the development via his official account on X. In his post, he revealed that U Mobile has informed him that its ULTRA5G network has reached 54.9% coverage of populated areas nationwide since its initial rollout.
The highest coverage so far is recorded in Putrajaya at 99.7%, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Labuan at 90.8%, Pulau Pinang at 82.3%, and Selangor at 70.9%. The telco did not disclose whether ULTRA5G deployment has begun in other states.
Fahmi also emphasised that the development of a second 5G network is crucial to fostering healthy competition, expanding coverage, and improving service quality for users. U Mobile previously stated that it aims to reach 80% populated area coverage by the second half of next year.
