TANJUNG MALIM: Two people were killed and two others injured in an accident involving two trailers at Km372.1 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) near Sungkai today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at noon.

“The accident involved a 10-tonne truck carrying eggs, with four people on board, which collided with the rear of a parked cement-laden trailer.

“The collision caused two male passengers, both in their 20s, to be ejected from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team.

“Two other victims, in their 30s and 40s, sustained minor injuries and were promptly treated and transported to the hospital by emergency rescue personnel,” he said.

He added that upon arriving at the scene, the team quickly assessed the situation and applied the Saver (Self-Adaptive Vehicle Extinguishing and Rescue) concept to prioritise immediate medical attention for the injured.

“The deceased were handed over to the police for further investigation, while traffic management and road clearance were coordinated with the relevant authorities,” he said.

He said the fire crew, consisting of seven firemen from the Slim River Fire and Rescue Station, completed operations by 1.50pm.

Meanwhile, PLUS, in a post on its X account, said that following the accident, traffic was congested for 15km.

As of 2.22pm today, cleanup work was still in progress, and the middle lane had been reopened.
