Two injured as trailer cargo hits flyover beam

JOHOR BARU: Two men on a motorcycle were injured when a trailer’s cargo became dislodged after it struck the underpass beam of the Perling flyover along Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam near Skudai yesterday.

The 4.45pm incident at Km12 involved a trailer, a motorcycle, and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh said the 39-year-old trailer driver was heading towards Kuala Lumpur when the trailer’s load struck the structure while passing through the underpass.

“The impact caused the cargo to dislodge and fall onto the road.

“The 17-year-old rider sustained a leg injury while his 23-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries to his right arm.

“The 59-year-old drivers of both the MPV and the trailer were unhurt,” said Balveer in a statement.

The case is being investigated for careless and inconsiderate driving.

He urged witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact investigation officer Inspector Zulhisyam Aziz at 019-743 2966.
