KUALA LUMPUR: Two men have been detained in connection with seditious and threatening posts on social media platform X, says Comm Datuk M. Kumar.
The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director said investigations began after two viral posts on Sunday (Aug 24) were found to contain elements of sedition and criminal intimidation.
“The first post… alleged that Malaysia would be taken over by extremists and that a revolution would occur.
“The second post… made comments regarding an Israeli attack targeting the Prime Minister’s residence,” he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 25).
Comm Kumar said the 37-year-old man believed to be behind the account that made the first post is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The second suspect, a 43-year-old man, is being probed under Sections 506 and 505(b) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
“The first suspect has been remanded until Tuesday (Aug 26) and the second until Thursday (Aug 28),” he added.
According to Comm Kumar, both cases are being investigated by the CID’s Special Investigation Unit.
“Firm action will be taken against anyone found deliberately making or spreading statements that are seditious, threatening, or capable of causing public alarm and disrupting national harmony,” he said.
