JOHOR BARU: Two girls were among 46 foreigners detained in midnight raids targeting undocumented migrants in Ulu Tiram.

The operation, codenamed Ops Sapu, was led by 26 officers from the Johor Immigration Enforcement Division and targeted terrace houses and shoplots suspected of harbouring migrants.

State Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said checks on 81 people found 46 without documents.

The officers detained 25 Indonesians, including two toddlers and 10 women.

Also rounded up were 16 Myanmar nationals (including four women), four Bangladeshi men and one Nepalese man.

The detainees, aged between 2 and 50, were held for overstaying, and for entering and residing in Malaysia without valid permits.

They have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot.

Rusdi said the raids followed tip-offs about a surge in the number of foreigners living in rented houses in the estate.

He warned employers and landlords against harbouring or employing migrants.
