Tunku Azizah presents historic lecture at Oxford University

KUANTAN: Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, delivered her maiden speech at Oxford University in the United Kingdom today.

She presented the opening lecture titled “Pahang: The Forgotten Malay-Islamic Constitutional and Maritime Legacy” at the Pahang and the Sea workshop.

In a post on the Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page, it was stated that Tunku Azizah spoke with clarity and depth, representing the voice of a government reclaiming the Hukum Kanun Pahang as the oldest Malay-Islamic constitution of a sovereign civilisation.

Her address also highlighted Pahang as a force of civilisation — knowledgeable, lawful and radiant — not a relic of nostalgia, but the written heartbeat of a sovereign Malay-Islamic world.

The two-day workshop, jointly organised by Muzium Pahang and St Antony’s College, explores the maritime history of Pahang and its connections with the Islamic world, and Europe.

Experts from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Malaysia are sharing their knowledge and research at the event, which concludes tomorrow (Nov 14).
