KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian road cycling great Harrif Saleh suffered a nasty facial injury after crashing at the Tour of Binzhou in today (Sept 9).

The 37-year-old was competing in as part of TSG’s preparations for Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) on Sept 28-Oct 5.

Harrif, a three-time LTdL stage winner, said he was lucky to escape more serious injuries.

“It was not to be at the Tour of Binzhou. During the final 400 metres, I fell as I was trying to position myself for the sprint,” said Harrif on Instagram.

“Alhamdulillah, I only sustained minor wounds. InsyaAllah, I will bounce back in my next race, I will give it my best.”

Harrif, who is known for his never say die determination, remounted after the crash and concluded the race in 97th position.

Vadim Pronskiy, who crossed the line 19th, was the highest placed TSG rider during the one-day race (UCI1.1).

Harrif will compete in one more event, the Tour of Huangshan on Sep 19-21, before LTdL.
