WASHINGTON, Aug 9 (Bernama-Anadolu Ajansi) — United States (US) President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Aug 15 in the US state of Alaska, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
Trump said he would meet Putin “very shortly” but had withheld the date and location earlier to avoid overshadowing the framework peace deal he brokered between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which was signed Friday at the White House.
He said Putin would “like to meet as soon as possible” and announced that Russia and Ukraine will swap territories as part of a peace deal.
“It’s very complicated. But we’re going to get some (territory) back, and we’re going to get some switched. There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both, but we’ll be talking about that either later, or tomorrow,” he said.
Trump added that European leaders wanted peace between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and both leaders shared the same goal.
“Now, President Zelensky has to get all of his things he needs, because he’s going to have to get ready to sign something, and I think he is working hard to get that done,” he said.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff was in Moscow on Wednesday for his fifth visit to Russia this year. He last met Putin on April 25.
The latest visit came two days before Trump’s 10-day deadline for Russia to reach a ceasefire deal with Ukraine. Yuri Ushakov, a top aide to Putin, described the meeting as “useful and constructive.”
