PETALING JAYA:

DAP Youth has criticised the ban imposed on satirical graphic artist and activist Reza from travelling abroad, describing it as unacceptable.

DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong said Fahmi should be hauled to court and charged if he had committed any offence under the law, and that the decision should be left to the judge.

Woo, a Perak executive councillor, warned that the move against Fahmi tarnished the reputation of the Madani government led by Pakatan Harapan chairman Ibrahim.

“This is really uncalled for. DAP Youth wholly disagrees with the authorities blacklisting Fahmi from travelling overseas. The image of the Madani administration should not have been tarnished by such actions.

“The people are watching. The travel ban must be rescinded immediately with no conditions,” he said in a statement.

Earlier today, Fahmi said he was stopped at the airport while attempting to board a flight to Singapore and informed that he was blacklisted. He claimed an immigration officer told him that Bukit Aman (federal police headquarters) had barred him from travelling abroad.

Last week, Fahmi, known for his satirical artworks and vocal criticism of political figures, was denied entry into Sabah on May 29.

Earlier this year, Fahmi was arrested by Sabah police to assist in an investigation into one of his satirical works. He was investigated under the Sedition Act for allegedly insulting the royal institution.
