KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke has directed the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) to open an investigation into Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) following repeated disruptions to the Aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
In a statement released today, Loke said that during the initial stage of Aerotrain operations, the ministry had acknowledged MAHB’s need for time to adapt, as the service was in its early adjustment phase.
However, after several months of operation, he stressed that the government would no longer tolerate ongoing service interruptions.
“The Ministry, through Apad, will take strict action against MAHB for every service disruption that occurs,” he said.
He added that the operator’s license issued to MAHB stipulates that the company must ensure a satisfactory level of Aerotrain service for users.
Under the Land Public Transport Act 2010, any breach of the operator’s license conditions may result in a fine of up to RM250,000 for each offense.
It was reported earlier that the Aerotrain service at KLIA experienced yet another malfunction early this morning, forcing stranded passengers to walk along the tracks in the dark while carrying their luggage, highlighting ongoing issues with the Aerotrain service despite RM456 million spent on upgrades.
