THE PHILIPPINES

 

1. DPWH CHIEF DIZON WANTS BONOAN INCLUDED IN IMMIGRATION WATCHLIST – THE PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY (PNA)

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the issuance of an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) against former secretary Manuel Bonoan, among others in connection with the investigation into anomalous flood control projects. 

2. 12 BARMM AREAS UNDER ‘RED’ SECURITY CATEGORY, SAYS COMELEC – THE PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY (PNA)

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Wednesday that 12 municipalities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are under the “red category” of the areas of concern.

1.JAPAN WELCOMES ASEAN OBSERVER TEAM – – FRESH NEWS

Japan has welcomed the establishment of an ASEAN Observer Team and the General Border Committee meeting’s outcome on September 10. Talks between Cambodia and Thailand covered key areas such as border reopening and de-mining.

 

2.CIVIL SERVANTS HEAD TO INDIA FOR TRAINING – – FRESH NEWS

Thirty-nine civil servants from Cambodia will attend a training programme in public policy and governance at the National Centre for Good Governance in Mussoorie, India, this month. It is part of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme.

 

LAOS 

 

1.UN SAYS LAO DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS ON TRACK – – VIENTIANE TIMES 

The United Nations is confident that Laos is ready to exit from the  Least Developed Country status by 2026. The Lao government is formulating its 10th five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2026-2030.

 

2.REFORMING WEAK STATE-OWNED ENTITIES – – VIENTIANE TIMES 

The Finance Ministry is taking measures to improve the performance of state and state-private joint-venture enterprises. Incompetent executives could be either terminated, transferred or banned from holding management posts.

 

MYANMAR

 

1.ANCIENT SPHINX IMAGE FOUND IN INWA CITY – -THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

A marble sphinx image believed to be sculpted by Amarapura’s King Bagyidaw was discovered in the ancient city of Inwa near Mandalay. The structure probably dates back to 1183 of the Myanmar Era.

 

2.FIVE-MONTH FISH EXPORTS EARNS RM540 MILLION – –  THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Myanmar exported over 100,000 metric tonnes of fish worth RM540 million (US$128 million) in the past five months. Seafood, including hilsa, rohu, catfish, seabass, eel, shrimp and crab, was shipped to foreign markets.

 

VIETNAM

 

1.RAMPING UP VIETNAM-CAMBODIA BORDER TRADE – -VIETNAMPLUS

Vietnamese and Cambodian enterprises in production, distribution, logistics and cross-border trade will attend a conference in Tay Ninh province on September 13. They will discuss improving border trade, investments and upgrading border trade facilities.   

2.ELECTRICITY BILL RISES 30 PER CENT DUE TO HEATWAVE – – VIETNAM NEWS 

More than three million households found their electricity bills rose by 30 per cent since July. The increases were mainly due to an intense heatwave in early August that pushed power consumption in the northern region.

 

INDONESIA

 

1.ECONOMISTS PRESS PRABOWO TO FIX BUDGET, GOVERNANCE — THE JAKARTA POST 

Hundreds of economists have urged President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to reform economic policy, claiming that budget misallocations and fragile institutions plagued by conflicts of interest and weak governance have worsened living standards and deepened inequality across the archipelago.
