An Indonesian economist has warned that the government’s plan to redenominate the rupiah by removing three zeros without altering its purchasing power would be an expensive and risky project, potentially causing confusion across the financial system and among the public.

1.OCD: 2 DEAD, 1.4M INDIVIDUALS EVACUATED DUE TO UWAN — PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

Two fatalities are being validated in the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas, while some 1.4 million individuals were preemptively evacuated as Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) pummeled a large part of the country over the weekend, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Monday.

 

2.OVER 60 TRANSMISSION LINES UNAVAILABLE DUE TO UWAN — PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

A total of 61 transmission lines in Luzon and the Visayas are unavailable due to strong winds caused by Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines reported.

A tour bus carrying 38 foreign passengers overturned on the Lampang–Chiang Mai highway on Sunday, injuring 12 people and forcing authorities to close the road temporarily.  

2. GREATER BANGKOK ‘FACES HIGHER RISK OF FLOODS’ — BANGKOK POST

Bangkok, along with some parts of Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi provinces, face higher risk of floods over the next several days as authorities increased the water discharge rate of the Chao Phraya Barrage in Chai Nat in the wake of recent rainfall, warned the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda).
