INDONESIA

1. PRABOWO GIVES NUSANTARA NEW REGULATORY CERTAINTY — THE JAKARTA POST

President Prabowo Subianto has moved to give Indonesia’s future capital Nusantara greater certainty by issuing a regulation that formally designates it as the country’s political centre by 2028, his greater signal yet of commitment to the project, even as doubts persist over funding and timelines.

 

2. GOVT ORDERS EVALUATION AFTER 5,000 POISONING CASES IN MBG PROGRAMME — JAKARTA GLOBE

More than 5,000 food poisoning cases have been linked to Indonesia’s flagship Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme as of September, prompting the government to pledge corrective measures and a full evaluation of the scheme.

 

LAOS

1. OVER 3,000 GRADUATES READY TO JOIN WORKFORCE — VIENTIANE TIMES

More than 3,000 students graduated from the National University of Laos, which will provide a strong human capital base for its workforce. The university has established itself as a premier institution to produce talented graduates.

 

2. ADDING MORE POWER TO NATIONAL GRID — VIENTIANE TIMES

The national utility board will acquire additional electricity from the Nam Theun 2 hydropower plant to meet the increasing energy demand. Nam Theun 2 is one of Laos’ major renewable energy projects recognised for its clean power generation.

 

MYANMAR

1. RESOURCES-RICH TANINTHAYI BOASTS MARINE EXPORTS — THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Tanintharyi Region earned RM1.3 billion (US$304 million) from exporting 285,315 tonnes of fish, prawns, shrimp and other marine products in the 2024-2025 financial year. Marine exports are expected to generate more revenue for the country this year.

 

2. SHARES INTERNATIONAL GOVERNANCE NORMS — THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar and the Media Group jointly organised a -Myanmar Dialogue to promote global governance.

China pledged to strengthen exchanges of governance experience with Myanmar to promote modernisation and development.

 

PHILIPPINES

1. ‘NANDO WEAKENS’, ABOUT TO EXIT PAR — PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa), one of the strongest tropical cyclones to hit the country this year, continues to weaken and is about to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said in its 5 a.m. bulletin on Tuesday.

 

2. DPWH SEEKS OTHER AGENCIES’ HELP IN SOLVING FLOOD CONTROL MESS — PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

THAILAND

1. IMF ADVISES THAILAND TO REINSTATE 60 PCT DEBT CEILING — THE NATION

Thailand’s public debt remains elevated and is edging closer to the fiscal ceiling, posing growing risks to the economy despite staying just within the legal limit.

 

2. PM EYES ATTENDING UN EVENT — BANGKOK POST

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed on Monday that preparations are underway for his potential trip to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he plans to raise several issues, including the Thai-Cambodian border conflict.
