Thunderstorms, heavy rain expected in three states, KL and Putrajaya

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across three states as well as the Kuala Lumpur and , effective until noon on Friday (Jan 2).

MetMalaysia, in a statement on Facebook, said the severe weather is expected to affect Bentong in Pahang and multiple areas in , including Kuala , Hulu , Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

Also effected are Kuala Lumpur and .

A similar warning has also been issued for parts of Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban and Port Dickson).

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
