Thunderstorm warning issued for 11 states and Labuan

KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected for eleven states as well as Labuan, with warnings in effect until 4pm on Sunday (April 27), said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a post on its Facebook page.

In Perlis, the entire state is on alert.

In Kedah, areas such as Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, and Sik are expected to be affected.

Perak regions including Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim are forecasted to experience severe weather.

In , Kuala Krai is under the warning.

Terengganu districts such as Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman are expected to face adverse conditions.

In Pahang, areas including Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan, Pekan, and Rompin are on alert.

regions like Hulu , Klang, Gombak, and Hulu Langat are included in the warning.

In Negeri Sembilan, Jelebu, Seremban, and Kuala Pilah are expected to experience severe weather.

Johor’s Segamat area is also on alert.

In Sarawak, areas such as Betong, Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Mukah), Bintulu (Tatau), and Limbang are under the warning.

In Sabah, the Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan), West Coast, Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan), and Kudat are expected to be affected.

Labuan is also included in the thunderstorm warning.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
