PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recorded the statements of three more individuals on Wednesday (Sept 3) following a false, racially charged post on social media linked to the state-level National Day celebration in Ipoh, Perak.
MCMC said the post, which falsely claimed that a Chinese Malaysian woman was involved in the incident, was untrue and could potentially incite racial tensions and negative perceptions within the community.
The statements were recorded at the Kuala Nerang Police Station in Kedah, Beserah Police Station in Kuantan, and the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Penang.
Three mobile phones, three SIM cards, and one memory card were seized for digital forensic analysis,” MCMC said in a statement on Thursday.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
MCMC reminded the public to always verify the authenticity of information before posting or sharing content on social media. – Bernama
